HENDERSONVILLE - Despite making five defensive errors, Hendersonville would not be stopped in Monday's District 9-AAA 11-4 victory over Portland.
The Panthers struck first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Mac Fitzgerald singled to centerfield, scoring Anna Herrera with the game's first run.
It didn't take long for Hendersonville to grab the lead. In the home half of the second, Matti Byrd roped her first double of the game to score Raven Denton and Jessica Stith. The Commandos added one more run in the inning on an Annsley Kalamon single, scoring Grace Doucette.
Back-to-back doubles and a single for Hendersonville in the third inning pushed Alex Beavers, Ace Hanson, Denton, Stith and Sarah Beth Biggerstaff over the plate for a sizeable 8-1 lead.
The Lady Panthers scored one run in their next at bat on a Kailey Wales sacrifice, scoring teammate Fitzgerald, to cut the deficit to 8-2.
MJ Mattei and Hanson each added runs in the fourth to claim a Lady Commando 11-2 advantage.
Fitzgerald and Mackenzie Evans scored the game's final runs as Portland fell to 9-13 on the season while Hendersonville improved to 11-7.
