Sydney Robertson, SCHS senior and JROTC member, recently received the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross Award, the highest award a cadet can earn.
This prestigious award is presented annually to top JROTC cadets around the nation who excel in academics, leadership and community service. Candidates from 140 schools were nominated. Robertson won the honor based on her accomplishments and excellence in academics.
Robertson has been a JROTC cadet since her freshman year at Station Camp and plans to continue this program throughout her college years. According to Robertson, this program is what led to her future decision in joining the military and has helped her grow as a person. She has gained leadership abilities, lifelong friends, and explains, "Col. Overby and Sgt. Harville have had a huge impact on my life. I will never forget these men and will always be able to trace any future success back to them."
When considering The Legion of Valor award, Robertson states, "I am very honored to win this award. There are many people who apply but do not win so it feels amazing." The distinguished honor is much deserved due to her achievements, compassion and desire to set a good example for her peers.
Sydney Robertson exemplifies the JROTC mission statement, "To Motivate Young People to Be Better Citizens."
