Editor's note: The following is a copy of a letter sent to Mayor Jamie Clary by a local resident in regards to the recent arrest in Cheatham County of a local alderman, as well as another incident that occurred in Hendersonville.
As a citizen of Hendersonville and as a man of faith I am calling on the Alderman of Ward Three to resign.
I am asking for this resignation because this elected official has been accused of putting the lives of people I love in danger.
I am asking for this resignation because it just as easily could have been my friend Matt Thompson, who I grew up with and who lives in Mansker Farms, driving behind her instead of that stationary mailbox.
I am asking for this resignation because it just as easily could have been a young child walking behind her instead of that stationary mailbox.
I'm asking for this resignation because as a representative of this city, she has been accused of committing not one but two different crimes, as well as lying to law enforcement officials.
I'm asking for this resignation for the benefit of her, and her family, to take the time needed to get the help she needs because after the articles and police reports that have been made public, some help is needed.
More importantly I'm asking for this resignation because when a person responsible for making laws is dishonest and evasive with those responsible for enforcing the law, there is a conflict of trust that can't be reconciled.
I want to be proud of the people that we've elected to this board, and the acts this Alderman has been accused of are less than honorable.
Mr. Chairman, I am publicly and sincerely calling on this Alderman to please do the right thing and resign immediately.
People make mistakes, I get that. We're all human. It becomes a problem when that one incident turns into a clear pattern of behavior. I am asking this person to set a better example than they have been and resign.
Donoven D. Rice,
