There is universality in quilts and the threads that hold them together. Every quilt tells a story. Perhaps you have admired quilts and wondered about their creativity talents. Are you ready to create your quilt and story?
The University of Tennessee Extension has a quilted wall hanging class scheduled for Friday, April 21, 9 a.m. to12 p.m., at the UT Extension office, 658 Hartsville Pike, Gallatin. Theresa Allan, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, is pleased to welcome Sharon Poelker to Gallatin as the quilting instructor. She just recently moved to Sumner County from Lake St. Louis, MO. She, who has lived in Denver, Vail, CO, and St. Louis, has her MBA and has owned several successful business in the areas of accounting, consulting, auditing, real estate, tax preparation, and hotel management.
Her passion, though, is quilting! She has started three quilting clubs and had a quilting business using her Gammill long-arm quilting machine for eight years. Sharon loves to teach quilting classes, from beginner to advanced. Besides quilting, she enjoys music with her singer/songwriter husband STASH, family, gardening, reading, and her two 12-year-old Maltese fur babies!
This intermediate class will feature making a wall hanging quilt approximately 36" x 42" before borders. Each quilt is a combination of solid pieces of focus fabric and nine-patch blocks (with a few rail fence blocks if you wish). You can make these quilts with florals, scenic, juvenile prints, home decorator designs, Asian prints, or novelty fabrics--just about any 100 percent cotton fabric with a medium to large scale design. Your imagination will be stimulated as you create a one-of-a-kind wall hanging you designed!
Register by April 17 at the UT Extension office and pick up the supply list of what to bring to class. The class is $20 and there is a sample of the quilt design at the Extension Office for you viewing as well.
