Dozens of law enforcement officers with 12 agencies from across four states took park in the fifth annual Hendersonville Police Motorcycle Rodeo held at Triple Creek Park in Gallatin last week.
The event, held July 25-29, featured a proficiency course, speed course, team relay and challenge course for participants to take part in as well night training, according to Officer Zach Gross with the Hendersonville Police Department.
"There were different parts of the competition, but it was all motorcycle training to make these guys better and safer on the road," said Gross, who also helped organize the program. "It was also (Peace Officer Standards Training Commission) certified, so all of the participants got 40 hours of in-service credit."
Money raised from registration and a raffle totaling $3,000 will be donated to the Officer Down Fund for the Fraternal Order of Police in Sumner County. The fund provides financial assistance to any commissioned officer in the county who is injured and needs help paying bills. Money can also be used to support the family of any local officer killed in the line of duty.
