HENDERSONVILLE - On a beautiful night in Hendersonville at Drakes Creek Park, Commandos pitcher Cameron Hansen brought his A game against District 9-AAA North foe, Portland High School. He gave up just one hit in Hendersonville's 8-0 win.
The lone hit came for Portland in their very first at-bat. Facing an 0-1 count, freshman Connor Simmons connected on an outside off-speed pitch and went opposite field for the game's first single. Simmons eventually moved to third base but that would be as close as head coach Jimmy Parker's crew would get to touching home plate.
Hendersonville grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Brett Coker tripled home Austin Mayes and then scored on a fielder's choice by Hayden Lane.
Hendersonville tacked on two more runs in the third inning when Gabe Dalton and Lane both scored. The Commandos added runs five, six and seven the following inning. Mayes scored his second run of the game after Lane tripled and Dalton's single brought Lane home. Coker's third extra base hit of the game knocked in Dalton.
