The 12U Hendersonville Select Civitan baseball team won the Cal Ripken state championship in Crossville last weekend. The Select qualified for the state tournament after winning their district tournament in Nashville at Edwin Warner Park on June 20.

In the state tournament, the Select lost both pool play games -- 9-6 to Crossville and 14-13 to Fentress County. However, they won when it counted most. In single elimination bracket play the Select defeated Lawrence County, 8-5, and Crossville, 10-6, to advance to the championship game versus Fentress County. The Select took down Fentress, 7-4, to claim the state championship and earn the right to represent Tennessee in the Southeast Regional 12U Cal Ripken Tournament beginning July 12 in Clemmons, N.C.

The team is currently having fundraisers including a yard sale Friday, July 7, at 825 South Water Avenue in Gallatin. Also, donations will be taken Friday and Saturday at the Hendersonville Walmart at 204 Anderson Lane.
