Tim Brewer of Hendersonville was recently elected chairman of the Sumner County Board of Education.
School board member Glen Gregory made the motion during the election of officers for the 2017-18 term at the Tuesday, Sept. 19 board meeting.
Brewer, a principal and managing broker for Crye-Leike Realtors, represents District 2, a portion of Hendersonville located on the Walton Ferry/Sanders Ferry peninsula.
"I'd like to thank you for your vote of confidence," Brewer told fellow board members before taking over for outgoing chairman Andy Daniels.
Brewer was first elected to the board in 2008 after winning a three-way race against Wayne Gleason and Robby McGee. He was elected board vice-chairman under Daniels in 2016.
Also Tuesday, board members elected District 3 representative Alice Bachman as vice chair.
A retired Department of Defense employee and grandmother of six, Bachman is currently serving her first term on the board. Bachman was elected to the board in 2014 after narrowly defeating then-school board Chairman Don Long.
Bachman, who was nominated by Ted Wise of District 8, told board members she appreciates the opportunity to serve in that capacity. She also received the nod unanimously.
