Even though Monday night's regular season opener did not last long between Station Camp and visiting Friendship Christian, the three-set match between the schools was exciting, as the Lady Bison battled to a 3-0 victory.
"We've played Friendship the last two years and it's been a good game both times," Station Camp coach Molly Yarborough said. "We play really well against each other and it's something we will continue to do."
Kendall Tipton led the match with three aces, while libero Regan Bratton served two of her own. Gracelyn Carvacho led the team in kills with nine, while teammates McKenna Killeen and Tipton each finished with seven.
Station Camp, coming off a successful preseason, looked poised to run away with the match early - jumping out 16-8 before a Friendship timeout put a stop to the run. The Lady Commandos bounced back scoring the next five points before eventually clawing back into the set, 24-23.
Following a Station Camp timeout, Lauren Brimmingham ended the match landing a ball in between two diving Commandos for the 1-0 set lead.
The next two sets were more of the same; Station Camp would jump out to a lead only to have the lead vanish and fight to close out the set.
Friendship gained their first lead of the night in game three, 9-7, but an 8-1 run quickly put the final set to bed as the Lady Commandos closed out the match, 25-18.
"I'm very proud of my girls tonight," Yarborough said. "Now we just need to close faster; letting a team have that window teams they will capitalize on that so we just need to do a better job of closing it out faster."
