Hendersonville's AARP Chapter community-wide "Let's Fill That Shopping Cart" benefit drive encouraging paper goods and cleaning supplies donations for the Senior Center was a success - 29 shopping carts filled to overflowing.

Supporting local seniors were our sponsors - AARP chapter, Hendersonville Senior Citizen's Center, ASAP Printing, Shipley Do-Nuts, and Kandie G'Francisco. Program participants were Hendersonville VFW Post 9851, Viet Nam Veterans of America Chapter 240 Sumner, and, the Center's Sweet Harmony choral group - all of who kicked things off with a patriotic program - truly tugging our hearts. Over 50 people played bingo (22 prize winners). Vocalist Fred Bacon did a performance with the audience smiling and singing right along.

The surprise of the day, in the midst of a downpour, was when Hendersonville High School Principal Cotter (soaking wet) stepped through the door bearing "gifts" and asking for help unloading donations made by students participating in athletic practices and extra curricula activities. The power of social media and pride in community provided one-third of the total donations to the Center. Can't get any more special!

Sponsors, volunteers and community members of all ages who helped make this service project a success - well done.
